Construction completion ceremony held for the Yabase Oil Field Demonstration Plant for produced water treatment
Friday, Mar 17, 2017
INPEX CORPORATION (“INPEX”, President & CEO: Toshiaki Kitamura), Chiyoda Corporation (Vice President: Keiichi Nakagaki) and METAWATER Co., Ltd. (“METAWATER”, President: Yasushi Nakamura) (referred to as the “three joint commissioned companies”), announced that they celebrated the completion of construction of the Yabase Oil Field Demonstration Plant for Produced Water Treatment (Demonstration Plant) in Akita Prefecture, Japan.
The construction of the Demonstration Plant is part of the ongoing work relating to “Small-scale Demonstration of Ceramic Membrane-based Produced Water Treatment Technology” that the three joint commissioned companies undertook in July 2015 as Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation’s (JOGMEC) “JOGMEC Technical solutions project Phase 2” (“commissioned work”).
The Demonstration Plant was constructed inside the Soto-Asahikawa Plant at INPEX’s Yabase Oil Field as well as adjacent locations in Akita Prefecture, Japan. It is a small-scale demonstration plant used to demonstrate the technology for treating water produced from an oil field utilizing METAWATER’s ceramic membrane filtration system. Construction of the Demonstration Plant began in August 2016 and was completed in January 2017. After the plant’s commissioning work, the Demonstration Plant began conducting demonstration tests in March 2017. The tests are expected to run for approximately 7 months.
Going forward, the three joint commissioned companies will continue to engage in the commissioned work to establish produced water treatment technology utilizing this ceramic membrane to improve the economics of oil production activities, extend oil field lifespans and reduce environmental impact in order to contribute to the stable and efficient provision of energy as well as environmental sustainability.
